Where I work (seriously)

Our shop is in an old church, before this area turned industrial. The congregation moved to the suburbs in the 50's. An old guy stuck his head in here the other day. He said he can remember coming to a funeral here. Surreal.

Ahh

I love the smell of construction, first thing in the morning.

Raw cement against the sky pt.II

There's lots of it around here. It sure beats the faux Tuscan townhouse complexes around the suburbs though!

Football Fans

Considering that the stadium is in my neck of the woods, I have been pretty slow out of the blocks. This is from Friday's game, Germany vs Serbia. Serbia won 1-0. A shock to a lot of people I think.
And there is another game today, Chile vs Switzerland. It does make it a bit difficuilt to concentrate on work though.

Budget Graffiti

Here in Africa people can't afford spray cans. I remember some of the graffiti I saw along the Thames in London, kaleidoscopic!

And looking up a bit higher...

we see that inimitable troubadour of folk Dave Goldblum. It looks like his blog hasn't been touched in years though. so here is something more. All in all a great Sunday afternoon.
And those of you who followed the Bafana Bafana game last night will know why I am steering clear of football today. eish.....

mmmm..

This image falls into the "I like it, but I don't know why" category.
As for the subject matter, an empty pair of shoes and a half-bottle of wine could  make an interesting starting point for a story methinks.

"Come to Africa" they said

"The sun always shines." Except for today when we will be hosting Portugal and Ivory Coast. It is now 8:20, and the game starts at 4 this afternoon... It looks like it is clearing a bit. But the air is still freezing.

But is it North End?

Nope, we were coming back into town after watching some live music on a property a few minutes outside the city limits. Don't worry, I was the passenger.

Friday, June 11, 2010

so I took a walk (again)

And came across this. What happens is the guys burn the plastic insulation off of the copper cable. And then sell the copper to the scrap dealers.
Flippin good opportunity for yours truly with a camera in his pocket though.

A rare sight

The main drag, including our brand new bus lane. It's never normally this empty. Mind you it was a Sunday morning.

I can't resist

I know this one's pretty close to my last train one, but I think it deserves it's own post. Don't you?

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Phew

There you go Travellin' Van and De Haan. You were getting worried there weren't you? Around here there are many many doors to go..

Slice of yesteryear

Here is an unoccupied building close to the train line. There are quite a lot of these sort of buildings amongst the more modern warehouses. Beautiful. I actually went in here with my father when I was much younger. When it was still a business.

Step right up, step right up

It's panorama Sunday, get your tickets at the door. And if you look carefully you will see Northender and RAP in silhouette.

Raw cement against the sky

There's nothing quite like it. It's the yellow that I really like.

Friday, June 4, 2010

I made it!

The train line is two blocks from where I work, and I eventually meandered down there. Lots more to come.

Thursday, June 3, 2010

I know I know...

"But northender, it's all shaky" Quiet, I'm too poor to afford a tripod, and even if I had one I wouldn't have had it on me at the time!
I really like this composition though, I think the gravel path in the foreground makes a good counterbalance to the dead symmetry of the tree. And there's just a little bit of sea in there, what would a day be without seeing the sea?

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

I have this thing about side lighting (is that a technical term?). And we are still in a drought, so plant these people, and you can pretend to be on holiday in the desert without even leaving your back garden. If you don't look at the buildings, and you block out the neighborhood dogs barking...

Ha ha

Today's theme day over at city daily photo is funny signs. I think these posts are meant to have a sign for the world cup. The rest of them were completed some time back though. Like this one.
