This can't be legal

I often see these signs. I find them quite disturbing and wonder how these guys can operate.
Surely they should be shut down?

don't look up

shooting panoramas is proving to be harder than I thought. A learning curve I like to say.

evening

I thought I would shoot across for a change instead of down the road

Now wait a minute..

My first shot of our new BRT (that's Bus Rapid Transit) lane!
And what do we have? A local taxi using the unopened lane.
These guys are so keen, someone should give them a medal, it's a pity the rest of our citizens couldn't show this level of enthusiasm (o.k. I'll knock off the sarcasm now, it was fun while it lasted though, wasn't it?)

Once upon a time, in North End

I used to be a sculptor, a good few years ago. Hopefully some day I'll be back there.
I am not trying to re-hash old material here.
I just think it's time to set this one free in cyberspace.
Bye-bye.

So I took a walk

with our two hounds

we call them sniffer dogs

but sometimes they just want to race!

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

night walk

There's enough digital noise and shadow in this one to keep the guys from The Matrix happy, but I like it.
Atmospheric I would say, and not a bad composition.

After the rain

After my rather debilitating 'flu I am once again posting a similar pic to a while back.
I try to not repeat myself, but then again I do like both pics, so it's OK I suppose.
Anyway, from tomorrow I should be back on the wagon .

Friday, May 21, 2010

now I hate to repeat myself

But I am off sick, and pounding the streets for pics is beyond my energy levels at the moment. So here we have a shot that is similar to one a few weeks back.

Quiet street

This is one of those pictures that I like, but I don't know why. Maybe because it shows a quiet street in what is otherwise a very busy area.

But is it gold?

I have watched these premises go from a take-away to a pawn shop. I see the theme day for city daily photo
in June is "funny signs". I may use a different view for that day, then again, I have some other dare I say it: really good ideas. Submission day is June 1 I think.

sunup

I have always been a night person, that seems to be changing a bit. Must be getting older I suppose...

Growth in the cracks

It always amazes me where plants can grow.

my first panorama

I have this idea of publishing a panorama every Sunday. I am not sure how they will look on the blog, all suggestions welcome.

more clouds

This is one of those shots that came out a whole lot better than expected. Just goes to show you.

Friday, May 14, 2010

clouds

I always enjoy the interaction of lines against the sky. And in this part of town there are plenty of lines

Here we go

Disregarding the person who put the new stadium sign behind the old sign, the piles of wood and raw concrete, the stadium is at least in the direction indicated!

shadow animal

Opening the front door, ready for another day. Hopefully something exciting and challenging.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

wait, wait I can almost see something.....

I do like this photo, for its abstract qualities. Then again there isn't much else I can say about it.

Monday, May 10, 2010

sunlight and shadow

yup, another door. maybe I should rename this "door daily photo"

Saturday, May 8, 2010

leaves in the sunlight

Winter is what is on its way here. Maybe that's why I seem to be favouring black and white of late.

Friday, May 7, 2010

Another door

You know me, gotta photograph them doors, lots more where they came from.

Building in a building

I have been wanting to do a glass reflection shot for a while. I was finally hanging around at the right time of day.

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

North End Plato's cave

The light came through the window,
Straight from the sun above,
And so inside my little room
There plunged the rays of Love.

In streams of light I clearly saw
The dust you seldom see,
Out of which the Nameless makes
A Name for one like me.

with my eternal gratitude to Leonard Cohen, a poet without compare, and still at work

Are we there yet?

I can't believe the amount of work that is being done on Prince Alfred Road, leading up to the stadium. As well as all the work that's finished on the nearby main street, Govan Mbeki. Almost unbelievable.

Whiteout

We had some mist recently. We can hear the fog horn from the harbour when we lie in bed in the morning.
