But is it art?

Great composition, excellent proportions between the elements and good tonal variation to enhance it.
I would say yes!

School's out

Maybe I've spent too much time looking at Raskolnikov's site.
His ones are a lot more nuanced though :-).

Oh Yeah

Next to North End you will find Richmond Hill, home to an ever-expanding street of coffee shops.
Now if you go PAST the yuppie ones you'll get to Cafe Ruwach.
So meet the Cafe Ruwach breakfast (R45) Under the fried eggs is a huge slice of homemade bread, and under the little steaks, fried bacon and mushrooms.
I had to take a walk around the block afterwards!

And look, you can even see the sea.

What's he building in there?

I shall keep my eye on it.

And to continue..

One thing Africa always does well: sunsets.

Liking the light

As the end of summer approaches, boo-hoo.

Thursday, March 24, 2011

You know you're in Northend when...

Take 2:

Yesterday in my "picture postcard" kind of mood I overlooked these 2.
I think they are vastly better than yesterdays.
Anyway, back to Northend tomorrow. I've got plenty of new shots just begging to be given there own little corner of cyberspace.

More fun in the African sun this long weekend.
Port Elizabeth can be a really interesting place - if you give it a chance.

Cuba?

Well, it certainly is unique.

Who me?

This is one of those pics that I "discovered" on my camera, after snapping it and forgetting about it completely!

Copper sky

I usually have a knack of missing good evening light.
Better luck this time though.

The beauty of concrete

Works for me :-)

Non-Northend Monday II

More cooking live music and dubious amateur photography skills!
Anyway, the man is Dan Patlansky and this white boy can't  can most certainly play the blues.

speed kills

Walking down the road on the way to work I encountered this bad boy.
And of course I didn't have my camera on me, so the trusty cell phone came to the rescue.

Down the line

Once again, our municipalities' bad maintenance gives me lots of photo fodder.

Bright time

Night photography is something I have almost no experience with.
But in the meantime, why not post some of my "training" pics?

Legal graffiti?

Across the road you will find posters advertising our local rugby teams appearance at our new stadium.
Plastering it on the front of the law courts?
I think you should put a bit more money in your marketing budget guys.
Of course visually, I love it!

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

What's for lunch?

I've bought lunch from these guys a few times and it's pretty good.
But don't expect tartar sauce and a slice of lemon with your fish if you know what I mean :-).

Non-Northend Monday

Always the rebel, here's something from my weekend to spice things up a bit.

Ice cream Sunday

At the time of taking this photo I was unaware of the interplay of the red railings and the more monotone ramp.
And I am still getting to grips with my new camera, which has a habit of turning overcast skies white.
Time for some more fiddling.....

Hard ground

I'm pretty cynical about improvements being done to our fair city at the moment - as there's no more money left after the world cup. However, it's good to see some stuff happening.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

This just in..

It looked like a chemical fire, so I didn't get too close.

Door interrupted

I really enjoyed my last little expedition to the city center, I'll be back soon.

Night fog

After leaving my favourite restaurant/take away/bar/pool table/slot machine establishment I took some time to appreciate the bus lane. Henceforth known as the bus lame.
