Big lady

Usually when the light breaks through like this, it's gone by the time I get my camera out.
But the heavens obliged today.

Twilight #?

Will I ever tire of it? Nah

Black and White rainbow

We have been having the strangest weather lately, doesn't feel like summer at all.

Monday, December 12, 2011

The early bird gets the...

....parking! (Oh wait, I was on foot)

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Pretty much my first day out with my new camera.
And all thanks to my brother for providing it.
Cheers, here's to many more (photo's I mean, not cameras)!

Blur door

Here's one I'll put up just 'cos I can.
Is it good, is it bad
Is it even a photo....?

A break in the clouds

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Where do you even begin with something like this?
I mean 3 spelling mistakes on 1 poster, including the name of our main street!
Ladies, sit this one out.

The wicker man cometh - be afraid

I am of course referring to the original movie with Britt Ekland, not the crap Hollywood remake.
(I must admit I haven't seen the remake, I'm just taking a stab in the dark)

Dark days on the horizon

So how do you see the future of the human race?
Are we going to overcome our current precarious position through innovation and change,
or are we going to keep doin it the way we have always been doin it, and choke on our own waste products?

Rain on the main drag

It's days like this that make me feel like I'm living in a small town..

Monday, November 28, 2011

Dirt and dust

I do experience idyllic days in the harbour, but lately it has tended towards the gritty end of the spectrum.

Dirt Day

Every Monday night....
Well actually every Tuesday morning, early enough to wake me with their shouts and squealing brakes.
Wouldn't miss it for the world :-)

Sunday, November 20, 2011

North End after the rain

I spent the whole day at home today, something I haven't done in a really long time.
I shot this from the back stoep (that's veranda to you overseas people).
Now I'm rested and ready to take on the world..

Steel and skyscrapers

Okay, not really skyscrapers, but here in the sleepy hollow of Port Elizabeth, it is to us.
A visitor from the U.K. once said to me "so you obviously go to the bigger centers when you go on holiday"
And I said something like "No, I prefer to find the smallest place I can"
Right now I'd settle for a day off :-)

Urban grit

Quite pretty methinks..

Monday, November 7, 2011

Clear days and nights

Now I'm about as far away from a commercial photographer as I am from owning an Audi.
But this one still caught my eye :-)

Summertime on the main drag

Thing to like about summer no.1: It's still light when I get home, and I can take a quick walk with my camera.

Fishing time

Okay, okay I'll lay off the harbour pictures for a while.
I can stop anytime I really

Learning to fly

Another infrequent post from the harbour worker, but I couldn't ignore this one.
Exciting stuff!

Monday, October 24, 2011

The back of the Feathermarket Centre, I much prefer the outside to the in!

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Harbour panorama

In the foreground on the left is a wooden yacht that was a scout vessel in the battle of Normandy in the second world war, and is in the the process of being restored.
In the foreground on the right is a luxury yacht belonging to a German father and son, who are on their third round the world trip, it has also just finished being repaired.
And in the center? Me, on the deck of the yacht that I am repairing!
It looks like Port Elizabeth is the place to be if you need fixing.

Steel and sky #352!

Once again my proclivity for capturing obscure bits of steel against the sky comes through.
Some things you just have to accept!

From the deep(ish)

What strange object from the deep is this?
(a mooring block from a yacht)

Monday, October 10, 2011

Steel and oil

Now you won't find this on the tourist brochures..

Who stole the sea?

We woke up to this this morning, leaving the house at the absurd hour of 6:30 to watch the boks get hammered.

This was the view from outside our local pub, the interesting thing being that it was packed inside.
A couple of brave souls had a draught in their hands before  the 7pm kickoff.
And for maybe the first time in my life I drank a coffee and not a beer in a bar :-)

Saturday, October 8, 2011

And from the other side...

After yesterdays pic I had the idea to snap one from inside the harbour looking from the other direction.
So here's one "hot off the digital press", taken this evening.

Into the blue

I always enjoy a new perspective on an old landmark :-)

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

All aboard the land

So here I am, on the deck of a yacht that's on dry land.
Looking out to sea...

Religion under con....struction

Et in Africa ego

Sunday, October 2, 2011

water and petrol

Here I am aboard a wind powered vessel, looking at the petrol storage tanks in the background.
Anyone got a light?

Found: heavy lifters!

I find this composition a bit too confusing, but I like it none the less.

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Wanted: heavy lifters

So what do you see when you look out of your office window?

Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run

Now while I seldom photograph events, I had a lot of fun at this mornings urban run.
It was a 12 kilometer course (I think) through the city center and surrounds, including obstacles.
However the whole thing seemed rather quiet. Let's hope there will be more and busier ones to come, as I am sure every one had a lot of fun.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

On my return journey into PE/North End from Redhouse I chanced a couple of shots out of the window (as the passenger of course).
And I can't resist a black and white :-)

Ugly duckling

Friday, September 16, 2011

Beauty with an ugly name

This yacht, stripped of all its rigging makes a much more effortless photo than trying to get a shot otherwise.

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

By the night light (moon)

There's the moon in the background, competing with the streetlights.

Sunday, September 11, 2011

The end

No rain though, or apocalypse. Although the town was so dead today with everyone watching the Springboks narrow victory over Wales it felt like it.

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Supper time

After a long day down the mineshaft, or in the harbour in my case, home to supper!

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Mirror sea

This is one of those "saw it with my eyes, couldn't quite get it on camera" moments.
Nonetheless, we do our best.

School's out

Friday, September 2, 2011

Spring, take two:

Inspired by my crap photograph the other day, I thought I'd try it again.
Next up: kittens and bunnies, ha ha!

Through the looking glass

Day 1 of my incarceration, at least I still have the internet.
No, kidding I'm working in the open air of the harbour, so expect quite a few of those coming through.
Unless I'm too wiped out to post, like last night.
Or, as Tom Waits quotes: any day on this side of the dirt is a good one.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Night corner

I've finally gotten around to shooting some the-other-side-of-sunset pics.
I have a really basic camera, and yet I've never used half the settings.

And last night I couldn't connect to anything Google related, so my best intentions were thwarted.

Sunday morning Surprise

Nothing like an incidental manhole cover to make an image.
One of the few in this part of town that remain I should add.
